Local Heritage

Our Local Heritage

The Ashland area is rich with stories — from one-room schoolhouses to the steam era of the north woods. The William Dalton Historical Society works to preserve these pieces of our shared past.

One-Room Schoolhouses

Across the region, historic schoolhouses like the Garfield schoolhouse stand as reminders of early community life. These buildings once served as the heart of rural neighborhoods, and many still open their doors for visitors to step back in time.

Schools and Classmates

Ashland Community High School and the area’s early schools hold a special place in local memory, connecting classmates across the decades.

Honoring Our Veterans

We honor the service and sacrifice of area veterans, including those from Aroostook County who served in Vietnam and other conflicts.

The North Woods

The surrounding north woods hold their own legends — from logging history to the famous Ghost Trains resting deep in the forest.
